Answer
Project Samson is a comprehensive, interactive, web-based HIV prevention program for men who have sex with men. It is offered entirely on-line as a series of two classes in chat room format.
Back to topThe Rural AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP) of Norfolk, Nebraska, funded through a grant from Nebraska Health and Human Services. RAPP has been incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization since November, 2002.
It is entirely free. Better yet, for those men living in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, or Wyoming we are able to offer participant incentives.
Back to topBecause right now we are funded through a Nebraska Health and Human Services grant, all incentives have to go to participants living in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakata, or Wyoming.
They may vary, but normally include safer sex kits, t-shirts, etc.
Back to topRegistration requirements include a valid e-mail address, but you never have to give your real name. You will choose a user name for your screen name. All information from the surveys that are part of the course are not identified with an e-mail address or screen name. In order to receive any mailed incentives, an actual name and mailing address will be needed. This contact information will be deleted from the database upon completion of incentive mailings.
Back to topNope, you only have to be a man who has sex with other men
Back to topThere are a series of two classes required. These are on-line, real-time sessions, held in chat rooms dedicated to this program. They cover various topics, from the basics of HIV transmission and prevention, condoms usage, relationship skills, assertive communication skills, and just for fun, the second class includes information about sex toys and other fun stuff.
Back to topThe classes are offered throughout the day, including early morning and late night. Both sessions last about 2 1/2 hours.
Back to topBesides the basics of HIV, you will get lots of updated facts and statistics, including testing information. We also do a lot of skill building regarding how to get partners to practice safer sex, how to identify and manage trigger situations that cause individuals to engage in higher risk activities, and ways to reduce stress and anxiety in high-tension situations.
Back to topNope, you can take as long as you want. We do recommend you try to take at least a class a week, just so you don't forget what you've been working on since the last class!
Back to topAll Postal mailings come to you in discreet packaging, plain envelopes, boxes etc. with no identifying information about Project Samson or Rural AIDS Prevention Project on them. Your address is not kept on file and is requested by email only when we have something to send to you. At that time if you choose to not receive the incentives, you may ignore the email or reply with "No Thanks".
